Iran Delegation in Geneva for Nuclear Negotiations
Iranian media reported that Araghchi moved swiftly upon arrival, heading directly to the Omani Embassy in Geneva — the designated venue for the negotiations — where he entered into consultations with his Omani counterpart, Badr Albusaidi, who is facilitating the mediation effort.
According to local reports, Tehran is pushing two core demands in this round: the complete removal of sanctions and substantive dialogue on confidence-building measures tied to Iran's civilian nuclear activities.
The U.S. delegation, expected at the venue shortly, is being led by presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump's close unofficial adviser Jared Kushner.
The Geneva meeting marks the second chapter of a diplomatic revival that began earlier this month in Muscat, where both sides returned to indirect talks under Omani mediation after nearly eight months of silence — a freeze triggered by the escalating Iran-Israel conflict. Despite the fraught backdrop, assessments from both delegations following the Muscat session were notably optimistic.
Earlier Tuesday, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei confirmed that the nuclear dossier would dominate this round's agenda, leaving broader geopolitical disputes off the table for now.
Baghaei also disclosed that Araghchi met Monday with International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Grossi to work through outstanding technical questions surrounding Iran's nuclear program — a meeting that signals Tehran's intent to engage on the technical dimensions of any prospective agreement ahead of the talks.
